Both the Hivos divisions Open Society and Green Society are, with their own focus, aimed on having social impact. Both divisions need a Division Finance Manager (Finance Manager Geen/Open). As Division Finance Manager you are the financial right hand of the Division Director (internally known as Programme Director). You are a sparring partner for the Project Managers and you give guidance to the Project Finance Officers within your division.
In the future you will be manager to the Project Finance Officers, but you will start of with a hands-on focus. The projects the divisions initiate and manage are being administrated, though not yet in line with the ambitions of Hivos. Your job as Division Finance Manager is firstly to (re)organize the processes in such a way that it helps the Project Managers to be in control and to able to be accountable. From project administration to project control. This needs a process upgrade on the organizational side as well as on the finance side. Alignment between the two is key. This requires a (re)organization of the management information systems as well.
Contribution to a better world by having social impact needs time, effort and money. Hivos wants to work efficiently keeping overhead costs manageable and effectively. This means that your job is diverse: sparring partner, financial conscience, gatekeeper, giving guidance and hands-on financial. You will work in close co-operation with Program Development Managers to substantiate new projects from a financial point of view. All without losing sight on the wider division perspectives.
The job touches a lot of different issues, both financial and operations. You will come in contact with donors, work on tenders, deal with compliancy, risk management and the legal side of projects.
This is a fulltime job (32 to 36 hours). Flexibility in working hours and location can be discussed.
Direct application or acquisition in response to the advertisement is not appreciated by Hivos. The recruitment is being led by our external partner ISA GROUP through Recruitment and Sourcing Advice.
The two Division Finance Managers we are looking for are experienced financials within project driven organizations. You've got natural seniority as a person and as a finance professional.
You have a degree on a bachelor level or preferably higher and/or have a proven academic thinking level. You thrive when you can (re)structure and organize. Your aim is to make people and organizations conscious and you want to help them adopt the changes needed. This asks for hands-on involvement on your part. However, you want to reduce the hands-on level as much as possible by improving processes and systems use. You are succesful when your colleagues are more independent and have adopted the new way of working.
You endorse the values, passion and involvement of Hivos, but with a business attitude at the same time. Next to social impact, the financial health of projects and being accountable for budgets is key. The funding also translates to your own main drive. Money is important to pay the bills, but you're primarily not in it for the money. Passion, involvement and contributing to social impact is more important to you.
With humour, the power of putting things in perspective, persuasiveness and creativity you find your way through the organization, the people and the processes. Stakeholder management inside and out. Patience is a much needed virtue as well as the guts to take a stand. Everything with a sense for culture and interests.
The main language is English, but understanding Dutch is equally important. You live in the Netherlands on daily travel distance from The Hague and you are willing to travel to projects abroad on occasion. You are a EU citizen or have a valid residence and work permit for the Netherlands.
